The World Cup

What is it?

The World Cup is the most prestigous soccer tournament in the world.

There are 32 teams that compete in the World Cup.

In the tournament, there are 8 groups of 4 teams each.

Each team in the group plays each other once.

At the end of the group matches, the top 2 teams in the group move on to the knockout stage

The knockout stage has 3 rounds before the Final and Consolation Matches (see below).

The Next World Cup

The last World Cup (2018) was held in Russia.

The next World Cup (2022) will be held in Qatar.

This will be the first World Cup held in the Arabian areas.

Fun fact: The host country of the World Cup gains automatic entry into the Cup.
